My new piece is about COVID-19 vaccines and why I will be getting the first one I'm offeredhttps://link.medium.com/bsZRijthAdb

And yet, there has already been tons of debate about which vaccine people will be getting. I keep getting asked about it by friends and family

I’m of the mind that once the human immune system has been Covid-triggered, by vaccine or natural infection, the risk of hospitalization from Covid will be ~zero, forever. Whether that’s from boosters, low virus circulation and/or super long-term cellular immunity we’ll see

Well, we know that's not quite true (some reinfections already have been severe), but I do agree that we've got strong evidence that all vaccines reduce the risk of severe disease enormously

The problem with reinfection is that there hasn't been a strong effort to actually investigate this population, I suspect because it's so hard to do, and so I'd be wary about making definitive statements at this point

Not one reinfected person has died from Covid in the US and maybe one worldwide who had other problems. Do you have sources for reinfections posing lethal risk? This is a reason I made this pledge. Herd immunity should be worldwide, not nationalism, and best way is thishttps://twitter.com/TheEliKlein/status/1354088762469478407 …

If I get Covid I pledge not to take a vaccine until the entire unexposed population of the world has been offered it There’s no public health justification for vaccinating people who had Covid, before people who haven’t Please co-sign

How do you know? There are documented severe reinfections but we really have very little idea how many reinfections there are or how severe they are. My point is the uncertainty, nothing more

There’s some uncertainly but so much of the world is studying Covid. The last thing we really need to worry about are lethal reinfections, but I understand why those who are super pessimistic are. For months we were being told maybe infections don’t confer immunity 🙄

I wouldn't say it's pessimism, simply being realistic about the limits of our current knowledge
