From memory, the only crime that has gone up since 2000 is sexual assault/rape and that is more to do with increased reporting than an actual increase in incidence
I don't think it's less safe for women per se, I think that hte underlying reporting system was very bad but is slowly improving which means it's hard to know if it's more/less safe. That being said, given the general downtrend in all non-sexual violent crime (inc homicide)...

...for both men and women, I suspect it's not unlikely that there have been fewer sexual violent crimes but because there has been a large societal push since 2000 to report and charge offenders that the reported number has increased
