Biased from living in a "developing" country (it's not politically correct to say third world country anymore) so I am of the few that has been saying that before, and will continue to do so.

I would not bet against that prediction. The fiercest critics of closing schools are actually arguing about how it inconveniences them but using disparity as a cover.
-
Many people care about the racial achievement gap. But this has resisted easy solutions. Opening the schools isn’t necessarily difficult.

While buying the girls’ school supplies Officeworks asked me for a donation towards the 16 local children they sponsor through the Smith Family. It was such a powerful reminder that many struggle to get what they need, when I take for granted we will be getting new shoes etc.

Reminds me of people who never cared about mental health suddenly “caring” about it cuz lockdowns are “bad”??? These people are insufferable, and only care for themselves and are willing to make stuff up. Show me the data to back the “worsening mental health” covid denialists!
-
The “mental health” argument is just covering how the denialists feel inconvenienced by taking care of our fellow citizens.

In fairness, those propositions are not mutually exclusive. The question they should be pondering right now, though, is how those kids are gonna do if we send them back to school and they bring home a Covid19 infection which kills the grandparent who cares for them.
-
Or the kids themselves! Kids of color disproportionately suffer from COVID complications.
