i am shocked to see those salaries in australia, a country with 1/15th the population! the US doesn't take kindly to high salaries for public employees. congress makes 170k a year, and the public still feels they are overcompensated

Australia in general has better salaries, so I'm not crazily surprised that we pay our top civil servants more. Still a bit odd to see the head of a massive centre earning so little
