The real irony is that epidemiologists have almost exclusively wanted to avoid lockdowns while the Lockdown Skeptics ensured that such actions were inevitable by minimising the pandemic and pretending it didn't existhttps://twitter.com/devisridhar/status/1353778545613541377 …

It’s strange to be misrepresented as ‘pro-lockdown’ when everything I’ve been writing & saying since Feb has been about how to **avoid** lockdown/release cycles. Which means don’t try to stay within healthcare capacity (which forces reactive lockdowns). Crush the curve.

And now the people who have claimed that we were at herd immunity once a month since April 2020 want to get shirty that governments have panicked as ICUs filled up and they had to set up emergency morgues Pathetic

THIS. Something that I've tried to explain to some more conservative-minded acquaintances. They complain endlessly about the economic impacts of the pandemic, but want to do hardly anything to reduce cases. And then they wonder why the restrictions, and deaths, etc. continue. 🤦‍♀️

The problem: up until 2020 it was common wisdom among epidemiologists that a respiratory virus pandemic could not be contained. That any NPI could only flatten the curve. "Crushing the curve" was considered an infeasible "cranky" concept. No one in the west had the courage to try

The thing people don't seem to understand about virus truthers is that their North Star is the search for something that liberals can be wrong about and they can be right about. It has nothing to do with reality.

I will say, however, that the level of detail that some of them engage in is breathtaking. Impenetrable charts and numbers are their forte.

Something about making your bed and then finding out you don't like lying in that bed.

Epidemiologists: we need to shut things down to save lives! Flatten the curve! *lockdown ensues* Fools: fewer people are dying...the epidemiologists were wrong 🙄🙄🙄
