What's your definition of 'modelling research'? I would have thought it's about having some epidemiological model for the course/wave of the pandemic in which a new restriction then affects some parameter that then affects outcomes. That's not what Ioannidis et al. do though.

I think any study that primarily uses modelling to answer a question could be defined as modelling research

I think the piece is good. But there needs to be analytics that are agreed upon: IMHO 1. Using +% & hospitalizations is better than cases although not perfect 2. Using xs deaths gets rid of C-19 bias deaths. The baseline for each country NEEDS TO be the UN expected deaths/1000

3. This xs death needs to be analyzed over a 2-3 yr period just like the 1918, 1957 & 1968 flus were. If the idea that heavier restrictions cause more xs death (like Peru but no xs death in New Zealand), this will become hopefully more clear over time.
