"But Australia is an island" Vietnam and Mongolia are also famous islands I guesshttps://fortune.com/2020/12/28/asia-covid-success-stories-lessons-learned/ …
you seem overly confident of the reasons. Theories include Pacific Rim countries and demographics re age and health. Obesity and diabetes is not an issue like the UK for instance.
Nonsense. Pacific countries mostly have as bad or worse issues with diabetes, Australia included. The problem with these theories is that they are almost always spread in bad faith by charlatans who don't even bother to do basic research such to support their position
but it's a combination of many factors, not just one thing. I think people who are very confident that it was a quarantine that did the trick are also reaching. Obesity? I mean that is one of the main factors for severe disease and death isn't t? You can't say it's nonsense.
I'm not saying obesity is nonsense, I'm saying that the idea that the burden of chronic disease is substantially different in countries that have failed with COVID-19 and ones that haven't is ridiculous. The main factor is quite clearly government action
Personally, I look forward this being explored in the years to come. It seems premature for anyone to say what was the 'main' thing.
I think any reasonable examination of the facts as they stand strongly supports the position that the main difference between, say, Vietnam and France was the action of governments and not some nonsense about how many people in each country have T2DM
