Every once in a while I'm reminded of my reaction when a journalist told me that Britain was reportedly pursuing a "herd immunity" strategy for COVID-19 I laughed in disbelief, and asked if they were serious Because it was, and still is, a bit absurd

To be clear, because people always say silly things: this is about herd immunity through natural infection, which is and has always been total nonsense

I keep thinking about the time Trump said that the US had beaten Covid.

Yep. Netherlands, too, and the Dutch never stepped off the herd immunity train. They renamed it 'maximum control' but minimizing the number of infections has never been a goal of the response. Dutch government science advisors talk enthusiastically about building up immunity >>

Nah. Monty Python is absurd. Herd immunity without a vaccine is immoral and terrifying.

Just to say,it isn’t lockdown. Not in the true sense. Airports open,a lot of shops open and people moving about fairly freely. I see 6 weeks of this then harsher lockdown because it’s not working #noshitsherlock Not even mentioned the issues with vaccinations #pissupinabrewery

Herd immunity is the inevitable outcome; some jurisdictions will inflict enormous needless suffering on their inhabitants before/after that is achieved; some won't.

And some Governments are doing all they can to protect their citizens until herd immunity can be SAFELY achieved through vaccination. There are options beyond Westminster-style repetitive destructive fuckery OR infecting your whole population. UKGOV just hasn't tried them.
