I looked at all-cause mortality trends in the USA to see if 2020 was an outlier, especially compared to other major flu pandemics. Even though the data for 2020 is incomplete, it's pretty clear this hasn't been a normal year. Note: crude mortality rate, not age-adjusted.pic.twitter.com/cxOlQwEcQU

Bolivia has likely already exceeded 2500 excess deaths per million since the pandemic began yet a strong second wave is brewing following large parts of LATAM (e.g Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Peru). Widespread vaccination still some ways away for Bolivia. #Bolivia pic.twitter.com/xtDdx2TZY6

In fact, @GidMK , in the UK we have lost 1 in 780 U.K. citizens to Covid already. (That is using ONS/Stats authority Covid certified deaths to 18/12/20 (their most recent report) then the daily deaths by date of death from 19/12/20-29/12/20 on the Gov dashboard. Since then, adding the 28 day deaths by date of death on the Gov website, we already have had another 4480 deaths up to yesterday, and these will still be quite incomplete. Several hundred likely to be added to these days. That totals AT LEAST 87,104 deaths to yesterday. pic.twitter.com/Lj9DsB5XtP

Typically it takes 2-3 weeks to get most of the deaths notified so the likelihood is we will be at 90k deaths on 1/1/21 when all notifications are made. I fear it will be 100k by mid January. The dashboard takes a little getting used to but the data ⤵️ https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/deaths
