I could not disagree more. There are many very good reasons we do not just start injecting every newly-developed pharmaceutical into otherwise healthy people, which is what clinical trials are literally forhttps://twitter.com/matthewlesh/status/1343438642660868099 …

The biggest untold story of 2020 is that Moderna took just 48 hours in Jan to develop a 95% effective vaccine. It then took 11 months for vaccinations to begin — largely because of huge regulatory burdens. Millions have died as a result. We cannot ever wait this long again.

Quite so. Do you have any view on the possibility of pathogenic priming in these Vaccines? It seemed to be a problem for cov1 Vaccines in animal trials which seem to have been minimal for this current round.

right. In addition the biggest untold story of 2020 might also be that 0% of Moderna vaccine doses have been sold to low/middle income countries ☹️https://twitter.com/gkalinkat/status/1342837903572004864?s=20 …

This is from a few weeks ago but as vaccination starts in the EU tomorrow it’s well worth sharing again „Rich countries hoarded enough doses to vaccinate their populations nearly 3 times over“ https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2020/12/campaigners-warn-that-9-out-of-10-people-in-poor-countries-are-set-to-miss-out-on-covid-19-vaccine-next-year/ … via @amnesty

Moderna has some of the smallest production capacity combined with a rather high price. That might explain it.

That’s a bit of a slippery slope fallacy. He is speaking specifically about a vaccine developed using mRNA technology in the setting of a pandemic, and he didn’t say that clinical trials should be done away with. It is reasonable to look at making the process more streamlined.

If there's a scandal to be found, it's that it used to take 20x longer. But even that's largely a function or technological progress, more volunteers and more rapid, albeit tragic, infection in the placebo group. I do like the US motto: cut red tape, don't cut corners.

Sounds like a great way of combining a lack of scientific understanding with an irrational aversion to any form of government regulation.

Eh, the point is crap, but there is an interesting argument to be made- knowing what we know now, we would happily have started taking the vaccine in January. So how can we shorten the total scientific and bureaucratic process to achieve certainty of safety and efficacy earlier?
