For example, in my research, there is often a clearer signal in terms of people avoiding hospital from worries about the pandemic (i.e. before/after govt restrictions) than from the restrictions themselves

Most of those opposing government restrictions are pushing business as usual. When you dig deeper, they are also antivax covid hoaxers. They veneer it with concerns about government over reach.

No, it’s business as usual for a while but then so many get sick that schools and healthcare stop working and needs to be closed since people who are supposed to work there are at home sick. This happened in Sweden before Christmas, many schools and hospital wards were closed.
