Just a reminder that the Great Barrington Declaration is at its heart intellectually dishonest because the "focused protection" it proffers consists of things that most places are already doing anyway

How on earth did it manage to get so much traction?

It was written by a right wing think tank and they know how to make things go viral.

The people who wanted to implement it didn't really have a any plan to prevent low level caregivers in nursing homes (young, mobile, and unwilling to practice social distancing) from bringing it into their facilities. We still aren't doing rapid testing on these employees.

I do think some serious modelling of what opening up like normal would look like would be helpful. When i tell people GBD would be horrific i waft my hand, say carnage and do 80% of 50 million adults x 0.7% IFR. That feels a big underestimate though as nhs overwhelmed so ifr up.

They're still right. Care home staff need to stay in care homes for 2 week periods, isolated until everyone vaccinated. Vulnerable people need unprecedented support - financial, social, day to day needs. Everything else needs opening, those who of course want to shield can do
