I think he is suffering from endogeneity. The vents didn't kill people, it's that people placed on vents were in very bad shape.

Bhattacharya hasn’t seen patients in years. There may be an element of truth to the idea some COVID patients died partly because the disease was so new. That is banal and likely not enough to explain away much death.
