Maybe it's an Australian thing but if I were at a dinner party and anyone introduced themselves as "Dr. Smith" I'd immediately assume that they were dreadfully dreary and pompous because you're at the dinner table not a lecture theatre

Hasn’t mistakenly assuming ‘Dr’ means medical doctor been a running gag since . . . always? Now it’s suddenly an actual problem?

If someone says they have a phd I always ask "In what?" out of curiosity. I never assume MD. I dont understand what is so hard about it.

I'd probably be equally upset if they had a doctorate in dermatology. Or maybe not upset at all because all they have to do is get me into a hospital as quickly as possible. I'd even accept if someone without any doctorate would call emergency services.

Ah yes, I, too, immediately categorize everyone I meet by first impressions and their name to create expectations of how they can personally provide benefit to me, and then never bother to learn anything more about them. A totally normal and not at all fucked up thing to do.

If you’re at a dinner party and you suffer a stroke, you need to call EMS. Use of EMS is the best predictor of shorter door-to-needle times in ischemic stroke patients. It appears Mr Shapiro should stick to female anatomy. Oh, wait....

No I wouldn’t be upset because as an educated person I know PHD’s outnumber MD’s and I often ask what is your doctorate in.
