For those who are interested, the largest clinical trial to date has thus far not shown a benefit for vitamin D supplementation to treat severe COVID-19https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.11.16.20232397v1 …

That being said, the numbers are still pretty small and I don't think we can make any definite statements either way at this point

That being said, the study looks impressively solid, and this is some truly beautiful honesty wrt sample sizepic.twitter.com/M0Po8QNANd

The only very minor criticism I have of this research is that the sensitivity analysis used a Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons, which you could argue is a bit too blunt and may bias towards the null. That being said, it doesn't change the main results anyway so...ehpic.twitter.com/zSCnQObg98

Just deleted the tweet that said that this study "rules out" a large benefit - I meant to say that it makes such a large benefit much less likely, but the language was imprecise and I don't want people to misunderstand

I'm fascinated by all the people replying to this thread with "the study could never work because they only gave vitamin D to people once hospitalized!" because if that's true then the claim that vitamin D would treat acute+severe COVID-19 infections never made sense anyway...

Replying to @GidMK
I think most have made the claim the lack of vitamin d tends to lead to more severe outcome of covid. More of a prophylactic than an acute treatment.

Nah - just like HCQ, every claim imaginable has been made for vit D. It's the perfect treatment that works in every situation according to some

I see. I guess I haven’t caught wind of those claims. Not surprised though
