So infection can be instantaneous if one is in close contact with an infected person? This has not been made clear. It’s been made to sound as if infection needs 15 minutes to happen. I think this info needs to be communicated much, much more.

Yes, pretty much. 15 minutes is a guideline, not a fixed point at which the risk is high

I think what people don't see is that greatest risk reduction comes from minimizing the risk of meeting an infected and contagious person. All the other stuff like masks, ventilation, hygiene can only marginally reduce infection risk from a high baseline when meeting an infected.
