Something I often come back to when thinking about the whole massive debate about airborne spread is how it has changed basically nothing about recommendations 🤷‍♂️https://twitter.com/SaskiaPopescu/status/1333424110299357185 …

One of the things we do in infection prev/epi is community-based education. From the beginning, convos about the use of “airborne” were about the meaning & how we explain it in the context of a novel ID. This is why the @CDCgov has taken such care to discuss situational arbne. 1/

Because the recommendations would be much more onerous to fulfill. Not sure that's a good reason!

Do you understand why aerosol was not considered a plausible route for infection initially? After all SARS-CoV from 2003 spread that way. And should we in future pandemics not initially assume all typical routes of infection as possible to apply the precautionary principle?

Airborne transm is still denied /excluded in precaution measures for schools in Germany. Its baffling. By now the gov has lost huge portion of trust, simply for not communicating this and other stuff consistently and coherently.

In Vic, there have been pretty big shifts in both Health Care Worker PPE requirements as well as recommendations for community protection over the last few months. CDC have ramped up PPE requirements too in similar time frame, ICEG PPE reqs still below CDC/Vic.

It’s not true everywhere—Germany started talking about ventilation and filtration almost right away after the science started becoming clearer, and they’ve provided financial supports for institutions making those changes. But in too many jurisdictions, nothing at all.

Why don’t we have specific recommendations for steps after a positive diagnosis? Such as Depending upon age/risk factors- check to see if monoclonal antibodies or other treatments are an option. Follow your Pulsox and seek medical help when saturation’s drop below X%. (92%?)

CDC was recommending droplet precautions at the beginning of the pandemic. HCWs died. How easy some forget. Now airborne precautions but clearly it's not airborne. 🙄 BTW, situational airborne is not a thing. All airborne viruses require enclosed spaces to spread bc physics
