You have to wonder - deaths from COVID-19 will almost certainly be largely preventable very soon, so why are people still pretending that massive death tolls are acceptable?

As we speak before there is a lot of nuances in the "let it rip" rhetoric. Who let it rip? Well, that depends as always. When you have a declared epidemic at hand already, well while not easy to see, it was those that tried suppression.https://twitter.com/federicolois/status/1317254995801198592 …

You said before, people come to epidemiology for the uncertainty, they stay for the nuance. In the vaccine gamble nuance is king. It is not the same gamble for everybody, and there is no single solution to the conundrum. It very much depends.https://twitter.com/federicolois/status/1309146950344863744 …

That depends on how much faith someone has left in the global healthcare system to produce a safe vaccine. My former blind trust in that system has likely been permanently destroyed by 2020. The vaccine may be safe, but now it’s from a system I no longer trust.
