      On the one hand, discussion about public policy to contain the pandemic, even in places with massive outbreaks, is necessary and good On the other, a lot of regulation opponents talk just so much nonsense

      All I'm saying is that it would be nice if we could discuss the pros and cons of government interventions without people leaping in and screaming "COVID-19 IS A LIE TO CONTROL YOUR BRAAAAAAINS"

          They are against regulation of any kind for any reason. They will be disingenuous at every level. It is 40 years of global warming “debate” compressed into a very small timeline.

          The good news is that you can filter out those people. I suspect you must do that daily, if not hourly. I am confident your good reputation creates opportunities to discuss the pros and cons of government interventions with patient and smart people on all sides of the topic.

          1/ The track record of government intervention of the past 20 years makes it impossible to accept this one as justifiable. The role of "experts" in every case merely serves to polarise the debate as government organs are directed to pick one side.
