The study is very clearly inconclusive, which is not a big surprise given it was rather poorly designed and they didn’t control much. In your thread about it, you end up making negative claims that of course cannot possibly be proven - those are as vague and meaningless.

Sorry what negative claims did I make?

“[...] the results don’t exclude smaller benefits”, “[...] the result DOESN’T show that WEARING A MASK is ineffective”, and again “[...] that doesn't say a lot about their effectiveness at other times”. The results don’t say much at all.

None of those statements are incorrect. Each one is entirely factual, so I am not sure what you are talking about

Yes and they are entirely redundant - you realize we could infinitely carry on about things the study doesn’t show, right? They’re also biased, which was my original point.

Every point I covered in the thread is something that is being claimed about the study. The point was not to go on about things that the research didn't show, it was to point out the absolute nonsense being touted by denialists about it

How can it be absolute nonsense if it’s unproven? I appreciate there are some truly outlandish, ridiculous claims being made too, but not sure being skeptical about the effectiveness of masks is “absolute nonsense” either.

No I'm being entirely literal here - people made statements such as "this proves masks don't work" which is absolute nonsense

Actually, that's incorrect. The null hypothesis that this study tested was that masks do not have a marginal benefit of 50% or greater for individuals getting infected during lockdown/social distancing

More broadly, it's a bit absurd to say that there is no evidence whatsoever influencing the idea that masks may be effective at a population level as a public health intervention
