What is the IFR currently? I understand that it's come down from beginning of the year, due to improved therapeutics.

Just as much due to less invasive ventilation and better ventilator protocols, more proning, more CPAP, etc

Being high, it's low.

I think a problem is that mentioning IFR itself will make people (who know less about it) *think* the person telling them is knowledgeable. It's a kind of signalling.

People only see the % of IFR or CFR and think it's low, but they never stop to think that, for instance, 0.1% of Jeff Bezos' net worth would still be 185 million$, so obviously when there are more people infected, the absolute number of deaths will be high.
-
OK, that was a bit confusing maybe, but my point is, percentages are meaningless on their own. Absolute numbers, and the base number from which the % are based on, are also important.

I know you always say remember the denominator but 250,000 dead!!! Even if it is only 2% IFR its still 250,000.
-
Last study I've seen says IFR is about 0.8%. 2% is average CFR. 328 * 50% * 0.8% = 1.312 mln dead. Over one million dead if just half of the US population get COVID-19.
