While the evidence for interventions for COVID-19 is mixed, the one consistent factor is that implementing them early is both a) hard b) FAR more effective A short lockdown now may prevent a much longer one later!https://twitter.com/chelsea_hetho/status/1328888726068465664 …

#BREAKING: South Australia will begin a six-day ‘circuit-breaker’ lockdown from midnight tonight. Only one person per household will be able to leave the home each day for specific reasons, with masks to become mandatory in all areas. @abcnews

Using a design similar to difference-in-differences, this study found those states that enacted shelter-in-place orders experienced a decline in daily mortality growth rates by up to 6.1 points. As est 370 deaths were averted.https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/full/10.1377/hlthaff.2020.00719 …

Not to go outside, though? Really? Is there no point at which "hard" becomes too hard, overdone, given simply being out on the street is practically risk-free?

I get that. But from an admin. viewpoint, it's much harder to implement extreme hard separation when people can freely move around. Trusting ppl to 'do the right thing' has not had a good track record. Just sayin'

It also helps if it is simple to understand. The LA County restrictions make no sense and are so complicated I have a feeling most people will ignore them. I don’t even know if they apply to my office

Study analyzes the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) implemented across 79 territories & found less disruptive and costly NPIs (e.g. wearing masks) can be as effective as more intrusive & drastic ones (e.g. national lockdown) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-020-01009-0 …

Sigh. That's not what the study even found!
