I find both of your tweets political that I may cancel both of you... School won’t open until the fall of 2021 regardless of the thousands of upcoming papers or previously published papers.

Tbh, I think it is a mistake to try to nail the school closure debate to a wall with speculative “statistics” about any of these purported outcomes. There’s a debate here, for sure; and issues, huge. But these attempts try to apply math and certainties where few are, imo.

I couldn't agree more. I explicitly said in the thread that this does not mean that closing schools is a good thing, merely that this attempt to quantify the impact of such closures was enormously flawed

Generally, I think trying to use YLL to cost school closures is a flawed metric, because without mistakes such as are in this paper you will probably find that few years of life are lost due to closing schools, but that doesn't mean that closures are good

Which one? Thus far this year I've written a couple of letters to the editor about crappy mask studies, and I think one twitter thread, but there are just so many of them

Can’t resist leaving this GK Chesterton quote here. Clearly dated ... but the similarities between then and now are greater than the differences. Can’t we know something of a kid closed out of school by imagining it rather than trying to calculate it?pic.twitter.com/aKsT0iuvQi
