Sweden puts in place strict COVID-19 restrictions amid a massive accelerating epidemic Very sad newshttps://www.thelocal.se/20201116/breaking-sweden-introduces-limit-of-eight-coronavirus …

Actually, nothing to see here. I learned to not trust any source outside of Sweden about Sweden news :) ... Any regulation whatsoever for 'private gatherings' which is like everything besides a very narrow definition is protected by their constitution.https://www.thelocal.se/20201116/explained-what-does-swedens-new-limit-on-public-events-actually-mean …

This is true, but according to the public health agency website there are now regulations on restaurants, and the limits apply to public gatherings which is quite broad and includes sporting events and the like

To put it another way - as far as I can tell, these are pretty much the most restrictive rules that the govt can implement without changing their constitution, which is pretty big imo

They already had them in place. No change on those regulations either. They were quite 'strict', tables of 8 people with tables at 1.5m each.

They currently have rules specifying the 50/300 person restriction. If the reporting is correct, this has been limited to 8 people

That's the only relevant change, yes. But only happens on public displays, which for all uses and purposes is nothing. More a 'signal' than actual change in anything.

From my understanding it does limit things like public sports, and again as you've said it's literally as restrictive as they can be without modifying their constitution which is a pretty huge deal

It's 50, really, and has been since spring. Being decreased to 8 if change goes through. The 300 was supposed to be an exception for events with numbered seats, but never really took effect anywhere (except maybe some remote region).
