I think it's somewhat a sign of the times - they will parrot off a list of points that some denialist somewhere has made, trusting in their source to be correct rather than making the effort of doing some reading for themselves

Where is your evidence for this assertion? Do you have a study on it? Or is it just your prejudicial anecdotal view? People read journals & papers a lot more than you think.

That’s not been my experience. First of all, there’s the usual ‘subscription’ barrier to entry. Then there’s the time, and inclination. Even ignoring all of that, mere ‘reading’ is not understanding.
