Anyone know if this is about right...? It has not been a year yet for covid-19 to do the full year fatalities. Covid-19 is 2.7% mortality rate (and up to 5% in some places) the flu is 0.1%, it is 27 times more deadly, 2700% more deadly than the flu. #COVID19

@GidMK do you know if this is right? I'd never thought about it in those terms. Flu mortality is 1/1,000 Covid mortality is 27/1,000? There are lots of missing variables - we don't know the real incidence of cases. So this is diagnosed cases.https://ourworldindata.org/mortality-risk-covid#the-current-case-fatality-rate-of-covid-19 …

Based on my original mortality estimate, covid would be ~7/1,000. Influenza has a CASE fatality rate of 1/1,000, but the mortality rate is more like 2-5/10,000. We also know that the mortality of covid increases exponentially with age, from <1/1,000 for 20yo to >20/1,000 for 65

Can you explain the difference between Case Fatality Rate and Mortality Rate please?

Here I'm using mortality rate to mean infection fatality rate (IFR). The difference is in the denominators - CFR uses confirmed cases, but IFR is the proportion of people who die of all infections, including asymptomatic and mild cases who never get tested
