The main point is that supplements may do something for SPECIFIC conditions, but they rarely help with all the things that they are marketed and sold for

A HUGE red flag when looking at supplements is if they make vague claims like "supports immune system functioning", because it almost always means that there is no evidence to support the use of the supplement but they are marketing it for that anyway

Agree, but most Norwegians have light skin and live in a country with very little sunlight in winter (none above the Arctic circle). Which is why many have vitamin D levels under the reference value, and might need supplements in winter. 1/2

The supplement is traditionally cod liver oil. This may be among the reasons we are works leading in hip fractures among the elderly, but it’s not why we get the corona virus. I don’t believe it kills the virus, but this RCT might kill the vitamin D myth in an apt population. 2/2

I find it curious that everyone gets that deficiency in macro nutrients is bad but over consumption is also bad. Why do we assume that more is better with micronutrients?

How about a follow up to the 2017 blog? We're entering cold & flu season in the northern hemisphere in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The same people who use bogus supplements for cold & flu will likely use them for COVID too!
