I need a button that replies "MINIMISING INFECTION AND HERD IMMUNITY THROUGH NATURAL INFECTION ARE INCOMPATIBLE IDEAS EITHER YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BE INFECTED OR NOT" so I can stop typing out all those words every time

Also, another one "FOCUSED PROTECTION WOULD INEVITABLY LEAD TO OUTBREAKS IN VULNERABLE POPULATIONS UNLESS THE DISEASE IS COMPLETELY ELIMINATED, THE STRATEGY MAKES NO SENSE"

Herd Immunity = Herd Cull Even, then only really works if you can prevent the increase in cases overloading healthcare (Sweden's use of morphine > oxygen) AND you're not worried about long term morbidity

And how about, trying to achieving immunity through natural infection is a non starter if the pathogen targets and replicates in the immune system, leaving you more vulnerable to the quadruple whammy of reinfection, other infections, autimmune disease and cancers.

Not to mention the risk of stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, DVT, AKI, and a whole host of long term sequelae

What *actually* leads to a lot of deaths currently is people kicking and screaming "FOCUSED PROTECTION DOESN'T WORK", hence there is little advocacy for it, people don't seem to embrace and follow it, and a lot of people > 70 get infected and die.

Sorry...what would the mechanism for this be (for lack of a better word)? Are you saying care homes in April and May were choosing to not enact infection control policies because of what people say on twitter? I'm really not understanding this.

Focused protection and testing worked great in the White House!

But we do these things for all sorts of other diseases - not everyone gets flu vaccine, we rely on natural immunity. This may be right or wrong, and it's certainly more wrong the more severe the disease, but it doesn't seem to merit all-caps.

Focused protection is also a myth. It is bound to fail especially in areas at high community transmission. My 82 y.o. mother is in LTC facility in 🇮🇹. 10 days ago all staff and patients were - . No visits allowed. Yesterday I was informed she has Covid (fever + confirmed by PCR)
