Oh, and here are the increased figures for stillbirths too...https://twitter.com/ElizAthertonSop/status/1324276419137019905 …

Wow that's also awful. Numbers DOUBLED (from roughly 2 cases per 10,000 live births to 4, an increase of 0.02%)

I’m sure the parents of those babies who died unnecessarily would appreciate the way you make light of their deaths. If every covid death matters, so too does every subsequent preventable death from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, suicide, abuse, etc. caused by lockdowns...

Yes. It is important to quantify such things so we can reduce the negative impacts of interventions. That being said, it is ridiculous to say things are DOUBLING without providing the context that they are doubling from 2 to 4 times in 10,000

Reducing the negative impacts of interventions is precisely what we have failed to do, hence the need to get these facts out there.

I think it is indeed useful to note that there was about 1 extra stillbirth per 5000 live births during lockdown. That seems reassuring for mothers who might be needlessly alarmed at the "doubling" language in the piece

Just as the majority of the public have been needlessly alarmed at the wild & unreliable covid figures bandied about which have scared so many people into not seeking medical help when they need it. At least the actual figures here are correct (one assumes) in these pieces.

Those of us who recognise that lockdowns are the lesser of many evils are aware of the serious negative consequences. We advocate these only to prevent the substantial collapse of healthcare services. Far better to suppress the virus by other means if we can.

It can be done, you have my assurance as a friend that we are (as healthcare professionals and scientists and etc. etc. in the UK) really trying to do this. For now, in the absence of a vaccine, we have to suppress the virus or the NHS absolutely cannot cope.

As an Australian, I find the idea that you cannot possibly suppress the virus to be odd

In the UK so far we have failed to suppress transmission except by lockdown measures. I am sure it can be done...
