Your reply is emblematic of the problem on twitter There is a non zero risk to teachers, but closing schools hurts kids far, far worse. & poor, minority kids the worst It's a tradeoff. I'm a progressive, but its clear to me that teachers unions are harming society here

There's a complex question about school reopenings in an ongoing pandemic that's non-trivial to answer. That being said, blaming issues with safely reopening on teachers rather than school administrators (who have the power to implement safety measures) is, uh, not evidence-based

To go back to the original tweet, if grocery workers had a strong union it's very unlikely that we would've starved. It is, however, quite likely that grocery workers would've been less negatively impacted by the pandemic in a multitude of ways

To put this into a medical context, if hospital workers refused to enter COVID-19 wards due to a total lack of PPE, would you be blaming the workers or the administrators who refused to adequately protect their staff?
