I also find that discussions about herd immunity tend to leave out the fact that the annual birth cohort means there is an ongoing reservoir of non-immune children who need to be kept from those shielding - the herd isn’t static.

Months ago I did the math for Germany and 70%, ICUs running at full capacity but not more (flattenthecurve). It takes about 11 years to reach herd immunity under these circumstances, if I remember correctly.

Some people don’t care if everyone ‘gets back to normal’, it’s just important that they personally do. Of course they’re assuming they personally won’t have to access any sort of healthcare in that time.
