Interesting how many people are angry at their governments for considering another lockdown rather than because they've failed to take actions sufficient to prevent another lockdown

Huh? Most governments imposed hand hygiene, masks, social distancing, gathering limitations, track/trace/isolate and closed some shops and nightclubs/bars or created a curfew. It's never been anyone's fault really. It's a high R0 virus, can't do much with NPIs as we can observe.

We've had 0-1 cases of local transmission where I live for weeks due to NPIs, despite pretty much everything being open. It can definitely be done

Well, until you remove the NPIs, you won't know if it's the NPIs or something else. If I'm not mistaken, you are in Australia which had a pretty harsh total lockdown, so you are in the same setup as Europe early May. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next weeks

Nope, one state had a lockdown but we've been open in Sydney since May with no major resurgence in cases. Still underlying transmission, but at a very low level and well contained
