Interesting how many people are angry at their governments for considering another lockdown rather than because they've failed to take actions sufficient to prevent another lockdown

Because some people are confused at the tweet - I am not blaming individuals for the resurgence of infections, it is the governments who have failed to take action

To be fair, I don't think there have been any countries that have gone from a high prevalence to containing it as well as any of those countries. The more nuanced claim is that once you have widespread transmission, you can't contain it without impractically harsh NPIs.
-
I tend to think that shows a failure of both imagination and of knowledge of the competent public health measures that many countries have taken, but from the U.S. perspective, saying "you could be like Taiwan!" ignores the hard question of how we get cases that low now.

I don't disagree and I would much rather live with people with the will power of Taiwan or South Korea, NZ, etc. But this is California and no matter what Newson or the Co. Health Officer says people will not "lock down" they'll just party at each other's houses.
-
As much as I wish that wasn't the case to not accept that would be a mistake. People in California will not lock down. Myself - I've been in lockdown since January. But I'm not a normal Californian.

Senegal seems to have managed exactly this.

$1000 says you included Germany, Switzerland and Italy in that list a month ago. Every country tried NPIs, and many 'inspiring success stories' are at the same place as yesterday's failed countries. You're advocating a strategy that seems to work in 1/50 places it's tried...

How can any intelligent person look at this map and conclude that
#COVID19 is a problem that can be fixed by a simple set of policy measures, and countries that failed to do so should stand in the corner and think long and hard about what they've done? Has the world gone mad?pic.twitter.com/amWeU4OTiR

Europe is not Taiwan nor Australia. NPI’s to that extent are not compatible (nor acceptable) with democracy & we can’t isolate ourselves from the world in isolationism. Also, all those regions are far more exposed to corona viruses and have some immunity we do not have.
