Reinfection can happen - but there hasn't been enough good work to tease this out for other resp viruses any more than for SARS-CoV-2. With such a variety of "common cold" viruses though, & constant mutation, some proportion is likely due to subtly antigenically different viruses
Perhaps obviously: reinfection is more *likely* to happen when that person is out in the midst of a lot of community-wide transmission of that virus.
According to this study https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.10.14.20212720v1 … reinfection rate was fairly low (100 per 100K) (but the window was 3 months AFAIK). Not sure if there are longer term studies out there?
(Of course this is without confirming it via sequencing, but thats perfectly fine IMO - its good to know the upper limit)
