You have to wonder at what point all of the people proudly proclaiming over the last 4 months that Sweden is at herd immunity will admit that they were wronghttps://twitter.com/zorinaq/status/1321806754716426240 …

Ok I've been informed that the common cold is a ~terrible~ example. A better one might be measles or mumps pre vaccination
Are these likely all reinfections though?
@MackayIM would know the precise answer, but from my understanding a large proportion are reinfections yes
With Swedish (UK, etc.) “herd immunity” we’re seeing people wedded to ‘the narrative’ who’ll disregard evidence contradicts the narrative. Why a story-line becomes sacred defeats me.
<the common cold is caused by 200+ genetically and antigenically *distinct* viruses

Lol ok maybe not the best comparison. Existing cold coronaviruses tho?
I thought of endemic as separate prior to my interview with @mgmgomes1.
However, she made the point that the seasonality of the flu in temperate latitude is due partly to weather but also partly due to cycling in and out of herd immunity as mutations alter the proportion immune
and as new susceptibles enter the pool. I suppose the cold would be similar.
@GidMK Genuine question. Is there anyway this doesn't end up endemic? at least in countries who haven't previously been able to roll out vaccines against existing diseases?
