I always think that abortion policy is the place where feelings trump facts most, because we know that a) banning abortions DOESN'T reduce abortions b) contraception DOES reduce abortions c) abortion bans are very harmful And yet people still advocate for bans

None of this is controversial in the slightest, and indeed is very well-demonstrated. The problem is that inducing an abortion isn't necessarily hard, it's inducing one SAFELY that is the problem

In business we have a saying that is: "What you don't measure, you can't manage". The moment you ban abortions is the moment you cannot measure them happening anymore, therefore you cannot manage them either. Many could be solved without one, for the others, safety first.

Countries like Uruguay found that when they unban them, and have a proper talk with the mother, in most cases there are ways to improve the situation and abortions actually went down, not up.

Indeed, and as quite a few evaluations have shown, banning abortions rarely reduces the rate, it just reduces the rate of (safer) legal abortions
