People should go read instead the views of credible epidemiologists, virologists, and public health professionals such as @MackayIM @aetiology @GidMK @devisridhar @chrischirp

Try listening to it's entirety, it's a very interesting unbiased interview from a man who has immense experience on respiratory illnesses

He is NOT a medical doctor, he has a PhD in respiratory pharmacology. That is NOT the same thing. Not a virologist or epidemiologist either The first part of the video when he tries to establish his credentials for these fringe opinions was frankly embarrassing to listen to.

I wasn’t embarrassed. I was impressed by his eloquence, his knowledge, & his belief in what he is saying. The last tweet I saw from a medical doctor said he refused to treat patients who don’t wear masks so I don’t see any reason to trust someone just because they’re a doctor

Exactly. There's some really dodgey medical doctors. Then there's simply those who do clinical care and have no public health skill. Yeadon (assuming that's who he's criticising) is, as he says, eminently qualified to speak on this.

I think he is a nice guy that genuinely thinks he is right and that he is helping. The problem is, I don't think he is either right or helping.

I honestly have no idea who he is or thoughts on his person either way, but he does make a lot of errors both mathematical and epidemiological so most of what he says is factually incorrect about COVID

You regularly present 1 preferred conclusion from data as fact (confirmation bias). Eg pre-existing immunity in Asian pops has not been excluded and quite possible. Scientific inquiry would allow debate of possibilities, but as this thread shows, conf bias blocks that option.

Well, I can't say I'm less immune to confirmation bias than anyone else - we are all human after all - but it isn't really a maths or epi mistake. The specific example you cited of pre-existing immunity has indeed been shown to make little difference i.e.https://twitter.com/profshanecrotty/status/1313580981341712386?s=19 …

Also important to note that here you're attacking a point that I never actually made - pre-existing immunity in Asian populations - so despite being wrong it's also a bit of a straw man. I'd still love to know of any factual errors I've made 👍

Not a strawman but an alternative to your "Asia did well because of masks" conclusion. There's only so much room in a tweet and I only have so much time. Point is you are very conclusive towards your biases and don't pursue scientific inquiry.

We are all prone so thanks for the reasoned reply in that regard although I disagree that it's not an epi mistake. Your "it makes no difference and here's the final say", per Nature article is an excellent example of my point.https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/what-is-the-role-of-t-cells-in-covid-19-infection-why-immunity-is-about-more-than-antibodies/ …
