I still love how many people propose a "Sweden model" for COVID-19 without even googling the country's policy to learn what they did

Like, sure, emulate the country's policy if you like. While there are downsides, at the very least it represents a consistent policy with clear aims. But if you don't even bother to check what that policy IS before saying we should all be like Sweden, I have no respect for you

I’m in Sweden and I’d say it’s anything but consistent and clear tbh

Well then, I stand corrected! From what I understand it was at least clear and consistent at the start?

Maybe for a short time? They publicly said the goal was to keep spread low enough to not overwhelm health care, but then in emails which are now public, they talked A LOT about herd immunity, while publicly denying that was or is the aim

They also released guidelines to ration care, which apparently (according to the public health agency) weren’t meant to be used when there was still capacity, but many elderly were denied care on the basis of those guidelines while there was still capacity

Not at all! Science and Time both have written about various aspects of the whole “strategy” here and all the ways it’s fucked up

There is a lot to be said about those articles. They are written by or only interview people that have been critical of more or less everything that Sweden has done from the start Making up their own facts and stories along the way. Och varför tro detta: ”Sweden never went into an official lockdown but an estimated 1.5 million have self-isolated, largely the elderly and those in risk groups. This was probably the largest factor in slowing the spread of the virus in the country in the summer.”

Morphine instead of oxygen in palliative care is not ideal either. Not much of this being picked up in international media. Likely partly due to uncritical patriotism of Swedes not voicing dissent, see Gina Gustavsson’s article and examples here later in 🧵https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/05/03/risk-swedens-coronavirus-strategy-blind-patriotism/ …
