I cant believe months into this pandemic there are still a lot of people who think its all a hoax and/or viruses dont exist. Bad maths kinda doesnt surprise me in some ways...

Linear models are adequate for most daily life, economics, business, etc. I've noticed since February that journalists and politicians only understand linear models, not exponential concepts like "doubling time". Like if you double every 3 days, what do you get in 30 days? Or 60?

Exactly this. Then introduce a few weeks lag between causal factors with a highly non-linear and complex system and they have literally no understanding of the concepts.
