To be fair, probably not a nail in the coffin per se. The study didn't have enough infections in the population to be sure that HCQ didn't work, and the confidence interval includes both a large benefit and a large detriment

That being said, I think we can safely say that it is increasingly unlikely that HCQ has a benefit COVID-19 prophylaxis, although it is still a possibility that we cannot entirely exclude

I have used the example before of HCQ being like a condom but I don't mean it's literally like a condom its not supposed to "prevent PCR infection"? so WTF was that even supposed to study? How about a good old fashioned We gave "regular doeses" and "less people died" study?

Wondering if you know of any data following those who got HCQ off label early on who were also in households who later tested +? We had patients who were on HCQ for things like RA and Lupus who were still admitted into the hospital.

I do remember seeing one study that looked at people who were already taking HCQ prior to the pandemic, but I cannot remember the results off the top of my head will have to look it up

Thank you for discussing the true meaning of these studies. I might add it did not speak to whether disease severity was meaningfully impacted. Prophylaxis, per se, is construed to narrowly in terms of determine the range of potential positive impacts.

In Science there are no final nails in the coffin. Frankly I don't think even a silver stake works either.
