Fun fact: Trump's doctor being an osteopath in any country but the U.S. would be super weird quackery but because osteopathy is weirdly integrated into medicine in the states it's pretty much normal there

Even more interesting is the history of osteopathy in the US, which started as pure quackery and then slowly drifted towards legitimacy over 150 years

A quick word on D.O. physicians. There’s a doctor shortage in the United States. Over the a few decades D.O. training has changed such that D.O.s and M.D.s often take the same medical boards, train side-by-side in the same residencies, and work together as faculty. Colleagues.

Since there are still people misunderstanding, the entire point of the original tweet is that it is NOT weird in the US for the President to have a DO as their physician because they do mostly the same training as doctors in the states

Faith healing is perfectly legal, Requires no medical training but because it is a conceptual practice rather than a physical product it is not subject to scrutiny.

While there are minor differences in DO and MD training, many/most DOs go through same residency as MDs and practice medicine in exactly the same way. The differences in training in many cases (if not most) do not manifest in practice.

I keep seeing this and its true. But MD *also* developed out of pure quackery (humoral theory). And there is still a bunch of pure quackery within M.D. programs (at least U.S. programs with integrative medicine departments).
