Fun fact: Trump's doctor being an osteopath in any country but the U.S. would be super weird quackery but because osteopathy is weirdly integrated into medicine in the states it's pretty much normal there

Even more interesting is the history of osteopathy in the US, which started as pure quackery and then slowly drifted towards legitimacy over 150 years

A quick word on D.O. physicians. There’s a doctor shortage in the United States. Over the a few decades D.O. training has changed such that D.O.s and M.D.s often take the same medical boards, train side-by-side in the same residencies, and work together as faculty. Colleagues.

Since there are still people misunderstanding, the entire point of the original tweet is that it is NOT weird in the US for the President to have a DO as their physician because they do mostly the same training as doctors in the states

I've never understood this. Is osteopathy the same nonsense in the US as it is in the UK?

No, they are completely different. US DOs are fully qualified medics and most ignore the "osteopathy" part of their training. In the UK osteopaths are similar to chiropractors

Ah, oui. So just one more quackery in a sea of crazy that has the stamp of American approval and enforcement. Very normal then. https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1312701905865379840 …

I do find it interesting that everyone says "he is getting the best care in the world." That always seemed self-labelled rather than true.

Is Osteopathy not a science based heath discipline ? (I know chiropractic isn't, but figured Osteopathy was)

Depends. From NHS webpage "Although osteopaths may use some conventional medical techniques, the use of osteopathy isn't always based on scientific evidence."
