I think this article is a bit unfair. There had never been a pandemic on this scale, so the best available evidence was in favor of open borders - the fact that the evidence has changed doesn't make the decision-making process wrong per se

Absolutely, but my point is that the science didn't seem (and wasn't) 'flimsy' at the time, it was just informed by the best available observations. The problem is that these observations were vastly different to the reality of the pandemic, not that the evidence was wrong
