Just astonishing that, despite the nonsense headlines and supplement grifter claims, the evidence for Vit D supplementation as a treatment for COVID-19 is so woeful that we have no idea if it does anything at all

we know insufficient vit D is a problem for bone health, so I don’t understand why ~no MDs/public health experts are saying, “get your 25(OH)D tested. if it’s insufficient, take a vit D supplement for bone health, and it *might* help prevent or reduce severity of COVID-19 too!"
-
Because large randomised controlled trials have failed to find any benefit for Vit D supplementation in terms of common bone-related outcomes (i.e. fracture prevention)

Meanwhile, the cynic in me wonders why the HCQ bros haven’t jumped on this. I mean the same “criteria” are there: biological plausibility, in vitro efficacy.. but somehow the actual clinical efficacy turns them off ? Wonder what else is at play?

Money. If this is about vitamin D, all you need to do is walk in the sunshine every day. Or take a cheap supplement.

As always, it’s a marker for ill health not a cause.
-
As with all previous diseases … vitamin D is as effective as Zinc but more toxic

I predict that we won't get such evidence untill it's too late to be useful for covid19.

How about the evidence about having high levels prior to infection helping to reduce severity, are those satisfactory quality-wise?

My son has MS and is recommended to take 4000iu per day by his neurologist. Is there no evidence for this or is it purely anecdotal??

MS and Vitamin D has a much more reliable scientific base:https://www.mssociety.org.uk/research/explore-our-research/emerging-research-and-treatments/vitamin-d …
