I think people believe that given enough smart scientists and algorithms and data, it’s possible to arrive at a solution where everyone is happy and there are no drawbacks. This is every movie. We find “the cure”, invent some test or vaccine, roll credits.

This reminds me of yesterday. IMHO the problem is not that epidemiologist are not aware, but when you think critically about the outcome on most places it is difficult to separate the epidemiologist and politicians calling the shots with the outcome.

As a citizen I did everything until figured out it was not working, and decided to figure out why. Then it was clear to me, my country policy was always to minimize death, than maximize life (and they did it poorly too, without the map). Difficult not to blame the epi in charge.
