Can't imagine a fraction of what we focus on in this pandemic, being possible to measure, then. Not to mention not being able to test for a virus we hadn't even characterized yet! IFR? Pfft!
We were talking about this last night. Even 15-20 years ago- can you imagine what this would look like without next gen sequencing? The path from virus, to sequence, to test was mercifully short. Without testing this thing would have overrun attempts to stop it.
Well no, I think the point is that in some ways the world hasn't changed in 100 years.
