Epidemiological modelling is an inexact science, what we should trust is *checks notes* the economic claims of large corporations like Wesfarmers and Jim's Mowing 🤔🤔🤔 https://twitter.com/Melbchief/status/1302556819772960768 …

I think you miss the point on this one Gideon. These sectors are hurt and feel they could have added to crafting measures if they had been consulted. The backlash will be counterproductive, vicious and long lasting. Dan may win the battle but lose the war

I don't think the main point is nonsense, but the portrayal in the piece is very silly. Painting it as "epidemiology is uncertain" doesn't make sense when neither is the alternative!

Agreed. The problem with many of the "contrarian" takes is that they have a point but the drown it in misrepresentation, spiced with errors. Fortunately, and thanks for it most sincerely, some of us can have real conversations about difficult tricky issues.

I feel those defending the (yes somewhat balanced) piece are overlooking the undertone of the negative responses. They don’t like the outcome (the road map) Even though some say they were consulted. Bad news is bad news. No amount of consultation will change that.

I found this constructive. Shows economists can do useful stuff too.https://joshuagans.substack.com/p/special-post-on-the-new-australian …
