Just sad that people are seizing on the semantics of this as an excuse for saying covid isn't that bad. Feel sure (dangerously unscientific sorry) that many of those people in aged care would still be alive if they hadn't have caught covid

I keep posting this everywhere so people can *see for themselves* the death certificates are perfectly capable and designed to reflect this complexity. In the end, the final causes of death are always one of a few things, the underlying cause, however, is what matters.pic.twitter.com/RBFqQIBIzC

For instance, if after a 6 month struggle with stage 4 cancer you die of a pulmonary embolism (caused by the DVT caused by the hypercoagulable state) the death certificate would read respiratory or cardiac arrest, then pulmonary embolism, then as underlying cause *the cancer*.

Sweden publish statistics on both "death with covid-19" (the "official" number) and "death from covid-19 according to death certificate from doctor" The latest numbers from both up until 24 aug are: Death with: 5813 Death from: 5668 So 2,5% were most likely not covid-19 deaths

I think this is fairly common. There is also probably a proportion, as in most countries, where COVID-19 was not recognised at all and thus the death missed
