Health Nerd Retweeted Dr Nisreen Alwan  🌻

When a journalist first asked me about herd immunity, I genuinely laughed It was then (in March) and remains still a truly absurd thing to proposehttps://twitter.com/Dr2NisreenAlwan/status/1289456602358063105 …

I’m genuinely puzzled by the position of herd immunity proponents. We STILL have no idea about the immunity part. We’re clearly seeing that death is not the only bad outcome of CV19. We don’t know who exactly are the vulnerable to shield. And the economy won’t be saved by denial.

Science & medical journalism is difficult! Usually a source of amusement but a real problem now.

Herdimmunity has been a fatalistic approach from the beginning like "We cannot fight it anyway, so let's live with it and hope that it's over soon".

Unfortunately it's not only journalists proposing natural herd immunity. In Germany virologists like @hendrikstreeck are still advocating it and get a lot of publicity from the media.

Yes :( He does not say it directly, but he is advocating a "relaxed" approach and to "live with it". IMO success in controlling the "first wave" quickly, thus keeping infections and death low has led to the assumptions among many that it's over anyway cc @Dr2NisreenAlwan

Herd immunity to covid19 was a bad Idea from the start. Still people are hammering on it.
