About 10 years ago, I read a study that so broadly defined addiction that the researchers concluded that at any given time half of Americans were addicted to something. They included any behavior that resulted in causing life troubles, so gambling, sex, shopping, alcohol & drugs.

Also there are plenty of people who get addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling, but don't act out in this way. They seek help before it gets this bad. Are they still addicted?
